KUALA LUMPUR:
The New Year celebration, held in a harmonious and vibrant atmosphere last night, served as an early catalyst for the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY 2026) campaign.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the celebration also reflected the beauty of Malaysia’s cultural diversity and the spirit of togetherness among Malaysians in welcoming guests from around the world.

“The highlight of the celebration was enlivened by large-scale multimedia performances, including fireworks displays that lit up key tourism hotspots in a peaceful and orderly atmosphere.

“May such events continue to strengthen harmony and national unity, while opening a new chapter in positioning Malaysia as a friendly, inclusive, and globally respected tourism destination,” he said in a Facebook post today.

The Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign officially kicked off with the organisation of the Visit Malaysia 2026 Countdown Festival, a large-scale New Year’s Eve celebration held in grand style at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

The countdown festival, attended by Anwar, marked the beginning of efforts to drive early momentum in the national tourism sector towards the target of 43 million international tourist arrivals, in line with the aspiration of making Malaysia a top choice destination for global travellers.
